Takasaki Shi, Gunma Ken
Shourinzan Darumaji temple is believed to be the place where Japanese daruma dolls originated.
The temple is piled high with daruma of various sizes and colors, each representing something different. A museum next to the temple displays different kinds of daruma. There is a pavilion where the German architect Bruno-Taut spent almost three years (1934-1936) studying various aspects of Japanese culture. (July 01, 2019)
