#175 Chausuyama Kofun

Yamaguchi Ken, Yanai shi

Chausuyama Tumulus is a keyhole-shaped tumulus that was built between the end of the 4th century and the beginning of the 5th century. With a total length of about 90 meters, it is the second largest tomb in Yamaguchi Prefecture after Shiratori Tumulus in Hirao Town. This ancient tomb was discovered by chance in 1892 by two local boys. Among the artifacts excavated at this time, the single-headed, twin-bodied monster mirror (large mirror) has a diameter of 44.8 centimeters, making it the largest mirror excavated from a tomb in Japan.
