Kumamoto Shi, Kumamoto Ken
Due to the earthquake in the Kyushu region in April 2016, Kumamoto Castle is currently undergoing restoration work. Tenshukaku (the highest part of the castle) is reformed and open to public now. (February, 2023) Built more than 400 years ago, Kumamoto Castle stands on top of a small mountain in the center of Kumamoto City. There are plenty of places to see on the property. The stone wall with the nickname of “Musha Gaeshi” is the highlight. Its curved shape symbolizes a strong medieval fortress.
