#149 Himi no Daibutsu

Yamaguchi Ken, Suo Oshima

The great Buddha of Himi was discovered in the sea of the Himi village and now seated inside the Daibutsu Do Hall of Saichouji temple. It is 284 cm high, carved from hinoki (Japanese cypress), and believed to have been made in the late Heian period (around 1200). A perfect spot to see the sunset.

The statue is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays.
