#125 Kasasajima

Suo Oshima, Yamaguchi Ken

(August, 2022)

A 0.94 km² island currently with less than 10 households. Accessible with a short boat ride from Komatsu port, Suo Oshima. There is an accommodation called "Minshuku Kasasa". The only one vending machine in the island was out of order. A friendly dog welcomes you at the dock and will follow you along the way. There is only one hachiman shrine. It seems you can walk around the island with low tide.

The history of the island is relatively new, and it is said that until the early Edo period, it was a source of firewood for the salt fields in Shinjo, Yanai City. After that, coal began to be used in the salt fields, and the demand for firewood decreased. The island is surrounded by a strait that is sandwiched between the mainland and Suo Oshima, and the tide is fast, making it a good fishing ground. "Origin of the island name of Kasasajima"

Long time ago, the islanders offered a hat to Princess Hannya, who threw herself into the Obatake Seto sea.

"Kasasa Island Seven Wonders" ・There is no grave ・There is no temple ・There is no taboo related to the sun and the directions ・There is no change in the number of houses ・Abundant water ・There are no professional fishermen ・There is no viper
