Yamaguchi Shi, Yamaguchi Ken
Unkokukan Ato is the ruins of the former residence of Sesshu, a painter and a priest. He first lived here at the invitation of the Ouchi clan. He went to China on a Japanese mission ship to learn painting techniques, and upon returning to Japan, he lived at this studio teaching his students for the rest of his life. This building was rebuilt in 1884 using old wood from an old shrine.
