Suo Oshima, Yamaguchi Ken
Obiishi is one of the four unique rocks in Suo Oshima. It’s around 8 meters high and has a circumference of around 30 meters. There is an obi (belt) -like uneven pattern that has been carved on the large round rock.
It is said that Kobo Daishi （Kukai）found a sacred stone here and enshrined the three deities of Senju, Fudo, and Bishamon, and he marked the words of 南無阿弥陀仏 (Namu Amidabutsu). Because the streaks that look like a belt (obi) of rocks can be seen in the Iwata belt of a pregnant woman, this rock has been worshiped for over 1000 years as a deity of fertility and smooth childbirth.
