Suo Oshima, Yamaguchi Ken
Visited this cozy salt making factory on the serene shore, a minute from Tateiwa rock and Crest of the Wave (restaurant) in Suo Oshima island. A friendly and hard working staff welcomed us, showing the process of salt making from the sea and sharing us his ambition. An appointment is recommended prior to visit. The products are sold at Michi no Eki in Oshima, and a few other stores. Online shop contains very high quality and heartful products.

Greetings:
- Suo Oshima's salt making is now revived as "Ryujin no Shio - The history of salt making on Suo Oshima dates back to before the Nara period. About half a century after the salt-making in Suo-Oshima stopped, the salt of Suo-Oshima was revived by the volunteers of the island while maintaining the old passion for salt-making. Please enjoy the salt of Suo-Oshima, which is said to have been popular in Heijo-kyo during the Nara period. Ryujin no Shio Koubou is located in Tateiwagahama Beach, which spreads quietly on the south side of central Suo-Oshima. The sea has rocky shores and is a beautiful "blue, clear and shining" sea that contains minerals nurtured by the mountains behind. Our salt is crystals that are carefully and heartily boiled in a flat pot while wishing for "the health and happiness of people" by pumping up the sea water. This salt, born from uncompromising work, "shines brightly" when exposed to light. It has a clean taste and a refreshing aftertaste.
I am working hard every day on salt production and research with the aim of creating "salt that not only adds flavor, but enhances the taste of the ingredients and allows you to enjoy the lingering aftertaste of the ingredients and the salt." Above all, I will work hard every day to make salt while praying from the bottom of my heart for the health and happiness of the people who use this salt and their families. Our ultimate goal is to use the profits from this salt as funds to foster young people with aspirations, to operate the citizens' university Ryujin University, and to help the young people and the elderly live a moment of their lives. It is the realization of the “Ryujin no Sato concept” where we can spend time and learn from each other. Our goal is to have the islanders, visitors from outside the island, and tourists visit us and experience the peace and joy of living.
