A temple of the Shingon sect founded as Saikoji in 807. In 1870, it merged with Choraku-ji Temple and changed its name to Saicho-ji Temple. Both the main hall and the principal image of Fudo Myo-o are facing west. (Sai= 西、West in Japanese) In the precincts, the "Himi Great Buddha", which is 2.84 meters high and boasts the largest size in the prefecture, is enshrined.

You can see gorgeous wooden sculptures by Choshu Daiku, especially the dragon at the entrance.

One of the Suo-Oshima's 88 sacred sites. It is said that there is a large sacred ground that is said to have gathered the 88 sacred sites of Oshima, and that some people visit this ground when they are not able to tour all the 88 temples. The reception hall has been renovated to display 415 works by the Spanish painter, Joan Miró (1893-1983). Donated by a colleague of an art collector, it looks like an art museum. The chief priest is also excellent in art, and draws a colorful and artistic mandala illustration.
